Welcome to my site! This is a personal project to help me learn the basics of HTML/CSS and coding in general, so please don't expect anything extravagant.. At least not for now! I grew up on the internet, landing on it right around the time that highly customizable profiles and personal websites were nearly completely replaced by corporate minimalism & seas of ads. I was around 7-8 years old, so imagine 2010-2011.
The banality of social media, and just the internet as a whole (at least in the spaces I frequented) really started to get to me around the middle of the first wave of the covid pandemic. With more time than ever to browse the WWW, I began to realize how boring it had become for me to get online. Which made me weirdly sad because I really do, or did, love the internet.
Around this time, maybe 2021, a couple MySpace revival project sites blew up on TikTok. One was called SpaceHey. I remember getting video after video of people on my feed of people customizing their profiles on Spacehey, referencing old MySpace profiles and even defunct GeoCities sites. Something clicked. Even though I never truly participated in GeoCities and MySpace (I was entirely too young), I realised I was missing how laid-back, personal, and FUN the internet used to feel for me. I started looking into GeoCities, found out about NeoCities, and have wanted to migrate to this corner of the internet ever since.
I spent some time on tumblr as a tween tinkering around with customization, but I never really ventured into anything more difficult than editing pre-made themes with instructions built into the code & changing site cursors. This site... is also a pre-made theme that I'm tinkering with until I gain some confidence and familiarity with the process to move on to making my own from scratch. Thank you Teppy !!
I'll use this site to keep an archive of my interests, art, writing, and occasional digital diary. What I hope for is to replace me being chronically online with something more meaningful. I hope to abandon the cycle of ingesting fleeting bits of information I'll never return to while stuck in the infinite-scroll of the current WorldWideWeb. I've consumed enough internet for 10 lifetimes, it's time for something new. Feel free to poke around!
